ASMPT’s New Solder Paste Printer Offers More Flexibility
ASMPT’s DEK TQ series is the leading printing platform on the market today thanks to its precision, processing speed and footprint-to-output ratio. For even more flexibility in handling large boards, SMT leader ASMPT is now introducing a new model: the DEK TQ L for boards up to 600 x 510 mm in size. The new solder paste printer also sets more new performance records and offers many features for ASMPT’s open automation concept in the integrated smart factory.
With an alignment accuracy of ±12.5 micron @ 2 Cmk and a wet print accuracy of ±17.0 micron @ 2 Cpk, the DEK TQ platform is one of the most accurate solder paste printers on the market. The new DEK TQ L is also designed according to ASMPT’s philosophy of “maximum performance and flexibility in the smallest footprint”. As a special highlight, users can place two machines back-to-back, doubling the capacity of the line without increasing its length.
New features of DEK TQ L
The DEK TQ L offers electronics manufacturers greater freedom to print large circuit boards up to 600 x 510 mm – board sizes up to 90 per cent larger than the DEK TQ. The printable area of 560 x 510 mm is 78 per cent larger. the DEK TQ L is equipped with a three-stage transfer rail and can transfer boards up to 345 mm long (the DEK TQ can transfer boards up to 250 mm long).
Despite the increased board size, the maximum core cycle time is only 6.5 seconds (5 seconds for DEK TQ) in the three-stage mode of operation. The machine achieves these values through features such as high-precision linear drives, a new belt-off printing process, an innovative clamping system, advanced print heads and the unique ASMPT NuMotion controller with fibre-optic cables. In addition, the efficient and high-speed Stencil Underside Cleaning (USC) system with its own linear drive cleans up to 50 per cent faster than conventional systems. Since the PCB surface is more than 90% larger, the USC can be equipped with three different and easily replaceable stencil paper sizes.
The new press is 1.3 m long, 1.5 m wide and has a footprint of 1.95 m2, which is only slightly larger than the DEK TQ. This ensures excellent footprint performance.
Zero-stop line concept
Depending on the cleaning requirements, presses on the DEK TQ platform can run for more than eight hours without user assistance. This is made possible by its optimised stencil bottom cleaning system with its 22 m long stencil paper and 7 litre solvent tank. The machines can also accommodate 11 m long stencil sheets and easily interchangeable vacuum inserts of different widths.
To minimise manual assistance during the printing process, the DEK TQ presses can optionally be equipped with an efficient solder paste management system with automatic solder loading and integrated solder paste height control as well as individually configurable warning and stop thresholds. Another convenience is the optional Dual Opening Cap (DAC), which allows solder paste canisters to be changed without stopping the press.
Progressive automation
The DEK TQ platform follows ASMPT’s open automation concept for step-by-step automation of SMT production, leaving it up to the user to determine the speed and scope of the automation they desire. The various expansion options for the machine are based on the same principle.
For example, the system determines the position of the ejector pins on its own to prevent boards from bending during the printing process. It automatically places thimbles with a diameter of 4 mm or 12 mm and verifies their position and their height (as the only machine in the industry that can do this). On the DEK TQ L, the optional intelligent ejector placement frame can hold up to 60 ejector pins, twice as many as on the DEK TQ, due to the larger board size.
The DEK Multi-Combination Clamping System also offers more flexibility. With its software-driven linear actuator, ASMPT’s versatile and flexible clamping system automatically adapts to the thickness and shape of each board. As a result, the DEK TQ can print reliably and with high quality even in areas very close to the edge.
If the DEK TQ press is used in combination with the Process Lens SPI system and the AI-driven WORKS Process Expert software, the entire printing process can be automatically controlled and optimised.
Easy integration through open interfaces
In order to be integrated as far as possible vertically and horizontally into the user’s production line, material or production management system, a variety of open and flexible interfaces and protocols can be used. These include IPC-HERMES-9852 for board-related communication within the production line and IPC-CFX for transferring process data. ASMPT workflow solutions are also available, such as offline programming using WORKS Printer Programming as part of the WORKS Workshop Management Suite, which also provides plant-wide asset and maintenance management as well as seamless machine-to-human communication. asset and maintenance management and seamless machine-to-human communication. Communication with third-party systems and IT systems such as MES or WMS solutions is also supported, as well as a wide range of remote support solutions.
Larger footprint to output ratio and greater flexibility
Jens Katschke, Senior Process Solutions Manager at ASMPT, explains: “With the DEK TQ L, we are offering our users more flexibility to open up new areas of business and expand production with the precision, performance and quality they are used to, while at the same time the machine has an excellent footprint performance, the new generation of DEK TQ presses with a wide range of customised automation modules, is ideal for SMT manufacturers who prefer to use open, non-proprietary solutions to build their integrated smart factories.”
